Get Ready..Get Involved.

We have a great schedule of events for 2012.   Our next tournament will be our first annual Arnold Mercado Memorial Competition.   This event will also be a Regional Youth Competition event.  This will provide young fencers in age groups Y10, Y12, and Y14 a great opportunity to gain National recognition.   We will also feature Open /Mixed events in foil, saber, and epee.   Complementing this, there will be Division III (D Under) events in all three weapons.  You can register now on askFRED.net.  The competition will be in South Miami on March 3 & 4, 2012.   Foil on Saturday March 3,  Sabre and Epee on Sunday March 4.

Fencing is a great sport for the entire family to get involved.   Parents are a very important part of the fencing experience as we help our athletes excel and learn the lessons of honor, chivalry and sportsmanship.

What is the difference that makes a champion?   Hard work, dedication, focus, support from the family and the coaches makes the difference.  Your coaches at the Miami Fencing Club have over 100 years fencing experience on all levels.

To compete, everyone must do their part.  Your coaches are ready.  You must join the USFA, our national association.  Do it on line and save time.   The USFA provides on line registration.

You must become familiar with the USFA 2011-2012 Athlete Handbook.  Down load it and read it so you are ready for competition.   Serious athletes will also want to become referees to improve their game and help at tournaments.   You need to become familiar with the USA Fencing 10-2011 Rulebook.  You can down load these publications right now!

New Year off to a Great Start!

We have begun 2012 with a great start.   Our beginners and competitors are working hard to get ready for fencing competitions.  We wish to congratulate all our fencers who have made the jump to competitive fencing.

We made a great showing at the recent Allez 2012 tournament hosted by our friends at the Hollywood Fencing Club.  In open foil, an A2 event, Raul Perojo finished sixth.  Duncan Stoner and Oscar Rieveling put in a great performance.   Shannon Frede and Jacobus Engelbrecht from the University of Miami made a great effort for the Hurricanes.

The Y14 field was tough, but Mateo Acosta, Victoria Gonzlaez, and Jordan Getchell fought valiantly.

Gulio Torrens took Bronze in the Y10 event.   Solange Acosta and Luke Getchell fought well.

In sabre, Sam Tate took Silver, Matthew Marrero took Bronze, and PJ Arana showed that he could fight with the best of the field.   Congratulations to all our champions for a job well done.   You can see all the results on askFRED.net.
